Question Nail Question

My son just sent me this pic of his kittens nail and wondered if I knew what it is.
I've never seen anything like it before. Told him I'd check here. Hope you don't mind.

Not easy to tell (I couldn't see that well) - possibly normal erosion damage or maybe a fungal infection???

I don't see anything abnormal. It looks like it has frayed just a little on the end causing some dirt or leftovers from the litter box to get stuck to it.

ask him if it's crumbly. if it is, it totally looks like fungus to me. i'd probably go to the vet. there are otc medicines you can buy but they're for people so i don't know if you can use them on cats. horses get the same thing, it's like dry rot inside the hoof, but i can't remember what it's called.
