Introducing myself

I'm introducing myself. I just joined this forum because I Googled "cat with a hole in his head" and I discovered someone else has a cat with a hole in its head. It is a congenital issue, not caused by a parasite or insect.

Interesting...I've never seen anything quite like it. Is your kitty normal otherwise?

Yes, Cecil is fairly normal. He is a little needy and a little overweight but the hole, so far, has not affected his day to day health. It usually is crusted over since it weeps. It is a congenital deformation. I found an old forum about a cat, Maddie, with a hole in her head. It looked just like Cecil's.

He has been to the University of Illinois vet school....no solution, only a CT scan and a conclusion that his forehead between his eyes has no bone. It did not form.

How old is your kitty? I am glad that he is otherwise normal.

How very strange!!! Has he always had this hole? I'm SO curious!! He has such an interesting face with those eyes and fangs!! Almost Halloween-ish looking!! Did you adopt him like that?? A bit of background would be wonderful!

Cecil is nearly 6. He was born to a feral cat in our neighborhood. She brought four kittens to our yard and made a home under some construction debris. I trap, neutered and released the mother (who became semi-domesticated and later was adopted). I took all the kittens in and kept Cecil who looked rather hydrocephalic as a kitten. The siblings looked normal.

It took 1-1/2 years before he got what looked like a possible ingrown hair. After many visits, antibiotics, etc, I took him to the UI vet clinic/school. There were no solutions offered, just confirmation the this was congenital.

His fangs over hang, although he recently chipped one so only one shows now. His nose has a dip in it as though it didnt grow together properly. His face is very wide and I wonder if it wouldn't look as wide if he had a longer face.

He is adorable.
