I am in southern CA. They are indoor/outdoor cats and some of my neighbors don't keep up their yards. There aren't a lot of fleas where I am but one never knows. I want to protect the cats from fleas, ticks and I guess heartworm. Revolution is what my vet suggested but someone on the forum posted that it doesn't work as well for fleas. I really don't want fleas in the house. I have used Advantage II on the dog but don't even have to treat him every month. He is little, old, and stays in the house 99% of the time. It really never occured to me that the cats could get sick from the topical flea treatment but now that I have read some people say that I am worried. What do you recommend?
Cheapest place to buy - online? Costco or Walmart? (hate walmart but would go in if have to) The funny thing is when I brought the cats into the vets when I adopted them she said they had no fleas. They lived 100% outside - how weird is that? One is white and I haven't seen a flea but it will warm up here soon. |

I'm most comfortable with Advantage II or Frontline Plus. However, I try to avoid using pesticides completely. I only use them when necessary. I haven't had to in a while as we've not had any flea problems.
You can buy both of these over the counter now including at most Walmarts but do not buy any other product like this from Walmart. It likely isn't safe.

I like Comfortis for my girls. Once-a-month pill, no muss, no fuss.

I am having posting problems today. I posted on here a little bit ago and it looked like it went through, but now I don't see it. So short and sweet, my answer condensed:
I don't like commerical flea products because most of them have chemical warning signs and caution you to not come into contact with your skin. So why are we submerging our pets in it? There are many things that you can do around your home and property to discourage fleas, but if they do get on your cat, there are many natural, non-toxic, low cost, chemical free alternatives. Send me a message if you are interested and I can let you know what they are. |
