Someone said butter is good for cats' coats, especially strays, because it isolates the fur from the rain. They also love the taste, and apparently gives them a shiny coat. Is this true? Any other advantages of butter? If so, how much and how often? (By the way, how often is "occasionally"?)

it might be, but i'd kind of rather see it shiny from the inside than the out, if that makes sense.
all you have to do is remember that 1 tbsp. of butter = 100 calories and most cats daily requirement is around 200 -230. not that you'd rub an entire tbsp. on one cat lol. to me, occasionally would be 3-4x a month or once a week. but everyone is different. i don't think small amounts hurt them, and it will help with hairballs to some extent, but they digest the butter so it doesn't always do much good in that area. |

Salmon oil is a better choice for skin and coat health.
But Maggie loves butter, so if I have a bagel or toast with butter I let her lick any melted butter that gets on the plate as a treat...usually a few times a week. But it's not much at all...usually just a few small drops.
