Lightbulb I have a diabetic cat :(

Hi folks..

My name is Amy . Few days back my kitty kept being dizzy and tired, so i took my 13 year old kitty Molly to the vet. I am feel very overwhelmed by the news were given of diabetes. Any advise or tips to make my kitty's life less traumatic then visiting the vet all the time.

I had a similar thing happen to my 13 y.o. "Alkee" diagnosed with diabetes in July, and the vet put her on insulin injections. I had to inject her twice a day. She seemed to do quite well and stabilized for a couple of months, but then slowly lost weight and went downhill steadily and died in early Oct. Sometimes if cats are on insulin soon after being diagnosed, they can get a reversal of the condition. Unfortunately Alkee didn't get that. Hope your Molly has better luck.

I have a friend who tends to adopt older cats and seems to attract the ones who end up with diabetes. She has been able to keep them all healthy for several years after diagnosis. She's a stickler for making sure the insulin is given at consistent times everyday. Another major key is diet...the lowest carb food you can find, which means ditching the dry and only feeding wet (if you haven't already).

Holly, Misty & their friend, Jake, the dog.

Yes, I know I need a new signature pic...someday...

Excellent advice. My 80-year-old mother gave insulin injections to her elderly cat and the cat lived another five years. The needles are so fine that the cat barely felt them. I would occasionally give her insulin while she ate her breakfast and she didn't even flinch.
