My siamese lost his eyesight completely (fortunately temporarily) during his neutering. Within two days he had slow but sure recovery but it was a pretty stressful experience.
It was a central hypoxia situation - unrecognized till I got him home. He was given dexamethasone in an attempt to bring his sight back. I've been told by a few people that this is not uncommon and I certainly agree that unexpected outcomes can occur. Needless to say future anaesthetics will be approached with more than a little anxiety with this kitten. Anyone else had this happen and if so, what precautions were taken with other surgery? |

Thankfully when my 17yr old (at the time) cat had her surgery on her ear, she woke up without any problem -- the vet was really surprised given how old she was. He was afraid she may not wake up at all or some other side effect but now she's 19yrs old and worked up another problem..not sure if it's worth to put her back under..
