Default Switching food... eating less?

Hello,

I recently switched Kiera OFF of Iams, and onto Chicken Soup for the PetLover's Soul. Kiera has seemed just fine with the switch - within a day and a half she was completely transferred over.

My question is that I notice that she tends to eat less than she used to... I feed her twice a day (dry) and I notice that when it is time to give her her second portion around dinnertime, often she hasn't even eaten half of her morning's supply... this was never an issue on Iams. So she winds up eating less than a half a cup for the entire day.... is this okay for her? She seems healthy and happy otherwise. I am hoping it is due to perhaps the superior ingredients in the food keeping her satisfied longer?

Default eating less

I used to work at a pet store that sold all natural and wholesome food. We heard many stories of cats eating less when they're food is switched to a better one. I believe that your cat ate more of the iams becasue she needed more to get the proper nutrition. If the new food provides more nutrients, then the cat will naturally eat less of it. I wouldn't worry about it unless she looses weight or appears unhealthy. I hope this helps.

Oh yeah, sometimes if you switch the food too abruptly it can cause stomach discomfort. Usually a week or two is recommeded for transition mixing the old food with the new. And gradually increasing the new and decreasing the old. She may need more time to adjust. Good luck.

I just switched Chloe's diet from Fancy Feast to Wellness, and from Science Diet dry to Sensible Choice dry. She went from eating 2 cans of Fancy Feast a day, to 1 can of Wellness, which I feed half in the morning and half in the evening. If I give her more than that, she won't eat it. I never thought I'd see the day when she didn't scarf down 2 cans!
