You definitely have to take control when you go to the vet as you do when you go to your doctor. I used to be of the school that the doctor knows best until I had a not so good experience. One of my cats had a stroke a couple of years ago, I rushed her to the vets office, they are open at night for emergencies, they agreed she had had a stroke and took her to the back room for treatment. After a while they came back, this was a young vet, my regular vets were off for the night. She explained that she thought there was little to be done, we discussed the situation and agreed it would be best to euthanize her, she was already paralyzed in the rear legs by the time we arrived at the clinic. They did euthanize her. Afterwards the vet mentioned that my cat had bit her hand, she was not complaining, but I asked why, she said it was when they were trying to get a tube down the cats throat. I felt sick and realized that through my negligence my cat had probably had a few bad minutes at the end of her life. When they took her out of the room I should had said no extreme measures. Now, they do everything in the room, except of course surgery. Since then one of my cats was at the end of his life and not comfortable, so I had them euthanize him while I held him. Be educated, read up what you can and be active in your animals treatment, don't learn the hard way like I did.
