my new himalayan cat has been w/me and my other cat here for 4days now..and he only ate one can of food once..my other cat has humongous appetite and the new one doesnt seem to eat nor does he want to eat anything even when hes all separated in another room or w/the other cat. is this normal? should i worry? will he just eat when he gets hungry? my other cat never had this problem ever. thanks!

Well all cats are different and that means they all have different tastes. Maybe your new kitty doesn't like the kind of food that you are giving it. Has it been drinking water? Because obviously the kitty needs to eat so maybe you should try different types of food to see what appeals.
Is it a kitten? Is it healthy? Any upper respiratory infection? Because the only time I have experienced this is when I brought Puma home and she had a terrible respitory infection and her nose was all stuffed so she couldn't smell the food therefor she wouldn't eat. Maybe the vet should take a look at your new arrival. |

Himmies are very sensitive. I would keep the new kitty separated and do a gradual introduction to minimize stress. Separating him, then letting him out, then separating him -- that's way too much change and stress, and will not likely result in a happy relationship.
http://www.littlebigcat.com/index.php?a ... roductions About eating, it is dangerous for a cat to go without food for more than a day or two. You need to find something he will eat; meat baby food (chicken or turkey are popular) works well; or your vet can get you some a/d. Feed him by hand. Sit quietly with him so he gets used to you. If he still isn't eating, contact your vet. Cheers, Dr. Jean |
