Default Good news!

I brought Addison in for a recheck on his bloodwork to see if the heartworm is still there. That was on Dec 10th. I kept asking if the results had come back and they hadn't every time I asked. Finally, I got his file from up front to make sure there was nothing in it. All that was there was the sheet saying lab work had been sent off. So one of the techs called the lab. He was negative! Stupid lab never faxed the results over.

So the vet told me to keep him on his prednisone for a few more weeks, but instead of every other day, give it on monday and friday for two weeks, then just monday for two weeks then stop. If the coughing comes back bring him in. I haven't heard any coughing or sneezing (except for a rare once or twice in the last month or so) so I think my baby's all better

It was so funny because when I said I was giving the pred every other day, the vet was like "you mean like monday wednesday friday?" and I was like "no, I marked off every other day on the calendar so I know when he gets it" and he was all "oooh well aren't you miss organized??" kinda funny.

I think I can finally say he's got a clean bill of health. It was a long road though. He came from the shelter with a bad case of earmites, got that treated (said he looked like he had choric ear problems in the past) then he had a bad reaction to his vaccinations (another reason I dont' think I'll be having them done again any time soon) then he had tapeworm. Next he was coughing for a while, found out about the heartworm. After he started the steroid treatment the coughing stopped...and sneezing started! Antibiotics for that... and now FINALLY he's ok!

Horray! Belfour was cronically ill as well in his first 6 months with us. It is such a relief when the meds stop, and they are able to be healthy!
