Default Ants

Hey there,

I have a big problem with ants in my house, they attach Taby food whenever they get the chance! I tried putting a platter of water underneath the food and it kind of works, but sometimes they still get to it, or the water gets dirty, it's just a big mess.

So I was thinking of feeding a certain number of meals a day, rather than free feed my cat. How does that work? Are 3 meals enough? I don't know, it's strange 'cause he doesn't eat that much in one sitting. I hate having to do this but I think I've to try it for a while.

Any suggestions would be great!

feeding at mealtime only is the way I do it. I think whatever works for you. if your cat is used to food left out, it'll take a while to get used to the new routine. but after a while the cat will learn. don't give in to feeding in between meals just to stop the "begging". but is it possible to just get rid of the source of the ants? but then we have something here called "winter" which sure helps with most bug problems.

We don't hehe.

Wow only once a day? I always feed him wet food at the evenings and he starts begging as soon as it's dark outside But I try not to give into it.

Default Ants

I was having the same problem with my cat's food and I purchased the Bugout feeding system. I bought the large one and no more ants at all. I live in Florida and ants are a big issue here. I tried everything else and only this worked.

no, I guess I wasn't specific. I feed them four times a day: breakfast, lunch, supper, and before bedtime. I just don't leave food sit out. My cats are all under a year. When they're older I might reduce to twice a day, which is what a lot of people do.

I feed Belfour twice a day. Once in the morning & once at dinner time.
I only feed him what he can finish in 15-30 minutes. The rest is picked up.
Slowly your guy will learn that he should eat until he is full, and then the food will go away. Naturally cats are not grazers so he will be ok with this method of feeding. It should also help the ant problem because there won't be food left out.

That's interesting. I do think I'll try that water plate thing one more time, but I'll change it to a different place downstairs. That "bugout" thing looks so cool! That's kind of what I do, except the moat is not very deep so it dries faster. I just gotta find the right plate thing to put the bowl of food in.

If not I'll feed separate meals a day. Thanks Ducky and timskitties for the advice on that!
