Default healthy mouth and healthy cat, but stinky breath?

when we got her her breath did not stink, however, a few months after we had her her breath really begin to smell bad. i talked to the vet about it and she said she was fine and that shes too young to have any health problems relating to bad breath because shes a kitten, so we took her back home. i did some searching on the net and they said that bad breath came with teething from the dead tissue and such, so i have assumed this be the case...however, the breath has smelled pretty bad for too long and im about ready to call it quits and take her to a dentist, but since im the one paying for her(im just a kid, my parents only buy the food, i pay for everything else), i dont have any money to take her there at the moment, so im trying to wait this out. i keep looking at her teeth and gums, all is nice and pink and she acts just as spazzy as when we got her, so im pretty confused. the breath smells like baking soda and something else that stinks really bad, that worries me. the breath had a peak where it was just so terrible, but it seems to not be as bad as it used to, so what should i do? im really in love with this kitten and i want the best for her, can someone pleeeeeeeeease help me come to a conclusion. hhhhmmmm....my best guess would be teething as well, but I'm not sure how long that's supposed to last I know in people, bad breath can indicate a health problem, like diabetes, but I can't be positive with cats....

good luck figuring this out

Well if your vet thinks she is healthy than maybe your kitty just has bad breath.....it can happen to people right? Some people just have halitosis.

Of course you could always get a second opinion to make sure!

Gaylord is healthy, with excellent teeth, and he has pretty bad breath.

I'm sorry, but are these poll results going to be meaningful? there's no vote for "No my cat's breath doesn't stink"

Tim

OK, they're all under a year, not enough time to develop bad teeth. the littlest one is still losing his baby teeth.

oopsies, i meant to put one that is for kitties with no bad breath, but thats okay too. im trying to see a statistic to see whether bad breath is more common in younger cats than in older ones, but i left out the one category thats realy important...sorry bout that. anyways, are there breath mints you can get for kitties? i heard some people talka bout them but i dont know if they work or not or are even worth my time...*sigh* her breath is clearing up little by little, but it still stinks all in all, lol...

OK, I see what you're trying to learn. no problem!! the best thing is brushing your cats teeth, and yearly visits to the vet for tooth cleaning.

here's a thread about tooth brushing: http://www.catforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=12534

you care about your cat's oral hygiene, which is more than I can say for a lot of people. keep up the good work!

Brushing could help, either way its cheap and worth a shot

My cat has some funky breath too, and like yours he's healthy and has good teeth.

I know there's some sort of kitten gingivitis type problem. Dr. Jean has mentioned it. I'll see if I can find something about it.
