Default PLEASE HELP EMERGENCY.....KITTEN HELP!!!!!!!

I was away for the holidays and recently returned. The owner of the house I live in has a cat who had kittens, whom I care for regularly. When I came back after about 2 weeks, one kitten had a lot of feces caked onto his rear and and had some red. I tried to clean with a wet towel, but it is caked on to hard. There is some bleeding between the anus and other hole...it is impossible to determine the gender now that the cat is in this condition. The baby does not seem in any pain, and eats and plays like normal. s/he only squirms when I touch the red sore spot that is bleeding slightly. There is a lot of feces caked on the rear fur and legs. The owner of the house did not see this because he just fed them and left, and it was only something you would notice if you looked closely....please help me! I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO!!!!! I am a veterinarian to be, but I am stumped here. I want to see if there is anything I can do before going to the vet, since I have to go over 30 miles to find one.

Have you tried bathing the kitten?
If she was clogged up with poop that could be whats causing the bleeding, because she is then straining to get more out.
I would try bathing her, using gentle kitten shampoo, give the area a good soak. Actually it might be better not to use shampoo incase it stings the area.
I think ideally tho you should take her to the vet, incase she has split in that area straining to poop.

I agree, the kitten needs a bath in warm water, I would try to avoid any soaps or anything, though, in case of irritation. Any wounds underneath need cleaning gently, and probably a vets visit in case of infection and/or internal injury.

How is the kitten in itself? Any other symptoms? How are the other kittens? Are they clean? How is mum? I would suspect that at 8 weeks old, the whole litter could really do with being treated for worms, which could cause the diarrhoea. Please use a liscenced wormer from the vet though.

And of course, now that the kittens are weaned, please organise getting mum neutered

Wouldn't the presence of blood indicate something that surely needs a vet's attention (after the bath, do them that favor, at least)

The kitten itself is healthy, eating well, etc. The other kittens are fine and playful and healthy. The owner of the house took this cat in from outside when she was pregnant, because the kittens would have died outside.
(I live in an apartment above the garage of the house with my sister, Dad, and kitty, who is an inside cat.)
I will try the bath idea. It is not really a "split", more like irritation that has a little blood. I am going to have to convince someone to let me take the kitty to the vet if things get worse, seeing as my father hates cats... I will pay the money, no matter what the cost.

You'll have to be patient, of course, because it will take a while to soak and loosen the bm. As Zalensia said, it's possible that the kitten is impacted. Regardless, an open sore is an ideal place for bacteria to grow, and she could very easily get an infection. Bless the little baby! I'm so sorry your father doesn't like cats. You are very kind to offer to take her to the vet. That's the right thing to do. Perhaps if you explain that it is not your kitten, he'll understand and give you a break on the price. However, I think you and that baby will always have a special connection. Please keep us updated.

I used a paper towel with warm water and a small dish of warm water. I did not put the kitten in, so not to frighten the poor baby. S/he did not even seem afraid, just wriggled now and then. The rear does not look AS bad but I am going to try to use a "bath" (no soap) tomorow. I am keeping a close eye on the poor baby. I also noticed this little runt of the litter has a HUGE appetite!!! S/he is the smallest of all and eats the most! S/he ate HALF a can of food nearly! S/he was so full s/he could barelyu walk! She feel sound asleep every time after...=^.^=
S/he has such a personality....s/he takes everything that comes. When they were born, that baby always was pushed around and let the others take it's nipple. I always stayed up there for hours, making sure the baby got a chance to eat. I still do this, since the runt usually is thin and small. This kitten is very brave and sweet, and I pray I can maybe adopt he/her. I doubt this, but I will care for he/her.

From the sounds of it, these kittens really need to be treated for worms.

i think you should try mineral oil from the drugstore. that way, it'll moisturize that area and prevent it from drying/cracking more. plus, it'll clean it. and if the kitten licks it off, it'll just make her a little more regular.

when i got willard, his ears were filthy black, so i used mineral oil to clean his ears.
