old cat won't eat enough

My cat butch is going on 17 and won't eat any canned food he used to eat. i've been trying shredded chicken, raw grnd beef, fresh salmon bits just to get him to eat more. he acts hungry and cries hungry but turns his nose up at everything. Any suggstions of other foods canned or not he might like. he's losing weight, soon he'll need intravenous. any suggestions welcome, thanks, gary

Has he had any bloodwork done recently? Cats in renal failure sometimes suffer from nausea. Your vet should be able to help you out there. Is he drinking o.k.?

You really need to get him eating. Has he been to the vet recently? Sometimes when cats are ill they don't eat. Its possible he's gotten picky... but I don't think after 17 years he'd just up and refuse to eat ANYTHING unless there was something wrong.

Even if he's fine, just not eating, you could pick up some syringes (no needles) and mix some of his food with water and force feed him. He really needs to get some food in him!
