Default cat fang problem

Has anyone ever had to have their cat's fang pulled. One of my cats kept hanging her mouth open. When I took her to the vet, she said the tooth was badly infected. She took her in the back, and proceeded to pull it out.
My question is...now she is sticking her lip up like it bothers her. It was pulled out way back in Oct. I took her back to the vet, and she said the root is still in there, and she can probably feel it. She is eating well, plays with my other cat. The vet wants 200.00 to take the root out. Does anyone feel this is necessary?? Maybe that area is just bothering her because her tooth is gone there. She doesn't always stick her lip up.
I would like some other people's opinions? What do you think?

it should be removed, by why wasn't it done the first time? I think this vet is trying to stiff you.

Oh I would be really unhappy with my vet!
He/She should have gotten all the toothe the first time.

That is weird, and I don't understand what happened. When she pulled the tooth, she should have pulled the whole thing, including the root. That's the whole point of pulling a tooth, so the root won't be exposed and hurting and be prone to an abscess.

Um, how exactly do you "pull a tooth" without taking the root with you. It's like pulling a tree out of the ground with out the roots. You can't really do that unless you sawed it off....kinda makes you wonder.

I'd ask to see the x-rays and see what he says then.

Oh and you stated that the vet took her in the back and proceeded to pull the tooth out? Um, isn't this something that gets scheduled and is done under anesthesia? This sounds really fishy to me.

I agree, the root does need to be removed to prevent further problems, but I really don't understand what the vet did the first time - was there no anaesthetic? If there wasn't, or even if there was but they neglected to remove the full tooth, I would be up there complaining that they have caused your cat unneccessary suffering, they should at least give you a discount on getting the root done, if not do it free! This is their fault, not yours, unless of course you requested that it be pulled without anaesthetic?

Emma, can you do that? Just have them pull out the tooth with out administering the anaesthesia? That seems terribly cruel to me, I can't believe they'd allow that.

Yes, they pulled it out without any anethesia. It made me cringe. I guess I didn't know any better. The vet assured me it was soo rotten it just fell out. The more I think about it, the more angry I get. I have decided to take her to a different vet for another opinion. Maybe they can take an xray to see if there really is a root left there???

Good idea. If you can get any type of notation from this vet about her condition and about what has been done, you may be able to take this to the other vet and demand your money back or threaten to report them. That's horrendous.
