My 2 kittens are just under 5 months old. The boy is some sort of Russian Blue mix. For weeks I would find a random small dark pellet of dried up poop on the floor. I would only find one a week, so I thought nothing of it. This week it turned into 20 a day and I've seen him do it...just the boy, not the girl. He doesn't even know they're coming out. The pellets are turning softer and softer and he's starting to leave marks on the furniture. He still poops regularly in his litter box and he rarely notices these poops falling out. They seem to happen more when he's doing something strenuous like physical action. I've been giving him a little metamucil with his food the past couple of days. It doesn't seem to be working. Any ideas? He seems fine otherwise. I'm so tired of having to watch what I'm stepping on.
Any help would be much appreciated! |

This doesn't sound normal, but giving Metamucil will most likely just make it worse, as that's used to make the stool softer and more bulky by absorbing moisture but being indigestible. If you say it comes out during normal activity, it sounds like maybe something wrong with the sphincter muscle that holds the rectum closed. It can't be diarrhea, if it's solid, as you describe. Unless someone else here knows what this is, it sounds like a trip to the vet.
sorry you're experiencing this; you sound like a very patient and understanding cat parent. |
