Two of my kitties throw up often; like once or twice a day. Not everyday but several times a week. I can't pinpoint a obvious cause since it can be wet, canned or dry food. Consequently they have had many different foods, no one seem to agree with them. They'd eat and it'd come up minutes later or when they use the litterbox. I tried smaller amounts, warming up the food, they still do it. Nothing I can see in what they bring up (like foreign objects)
Also one of them is pretty gaseous (funny she's the one that gets sick the least) so it seems like somethings wrong with their gastric tract. So back to the vet they go. I'm thinking of worms; they were dewormed a month ago but they might have come back; also I thought of asking the vet to check for a blockage or abnormality? Thank-you!

I wonder if maybe the fact that they get so much variation in their diet could be contributing to their digestive problems, it might be worth sticking to a light brand for a few weeks and see if things improve. Is it just food they are bringing up? Are they otherwise normal? How long have they been vomiting? Are they losing weight or anything, or do they keep it down sometimes?
Sorry for all the questions, just trying to get a better idea of the situation. Are the two vomiting cats related? If they are littermates, I guess you couldn't rule out a genetic/hereditary problem, such as IBD or MegaOesophagus, though I guess its pretty unlikely for them to both have either of these conditions. You said they were dewormed, but that doesn't necessarily mean they're free of worms. Have you brought fecal samples to the vet for analysis? That's the only way to tell if there are worms, what kind of worms, and what kind of dewormer medication to use. Worms would be the first thing to eliminate. There are other things that could cause this, but go for the most likely first. Good luck to you and your kitties....

I feel your pain, rosalie. I have a cat who I've had a lot of vomiting troubles with and have had to experiment with several foods to find the right one. So far Chicken Soup is working great, what brand of food are you using? And like was mentioned, if you're changing it up too soon and too often they may need some consistency to get their GI tract back on track. My kittie has a very sensitive stomach and even top brands of food can do a number on him. Also, have you had bloodwork checked on them both? That can be pretty revealing as well.

Rosalie, how high is their food bowl. Bumper is a rather tall cat, and he was having trouble eating from a bowl on the floor. The local petshop owner recommended we raise his bowl around 4 inches - he is loads better now!!

We recently added digestive enzymes to our cat food on the recommendation of a new vet and there has been much less puking! And...my kitty who had awful breath smells much better! (now it smells like normal kitty bad breath...!)

Thank-you very much everybody!!!!! The kitties will go to the vet this week; they'll keep them for tests. I've to tell him what I wanted to have done; hadn't seen the last msg about the digestive enzymes so except that

With a steady diet of same good food, and raising the bowl I think they will feel much better. |
