Default Cat hasn't eaten for the past 4 days *UPDATE*

Hi, I'm new here.

I am worried about my cat. She hasn't touched her food for the past four days and wasn't even interested in the catnip I got for her. She usually gets very excited when she sees catnip.

I've just moved to a tiny apartment ard Xmas and my dog has gone to live with my boyfriend since then. I don't think it is because of this cos she was eating well all along till these few days.

Could it be due to the weather? It has gotten colder this week.

Pls help. She hasnt done anything but sleep the whole day and only wakes up to go use the litterbox.

There's something not quite right here. If your cat hasn't eaten for four days, there shouldn't be anything left in there for the litterbox. Are you sure there aren't mice in the apartment she's been catching?

After four days without food your cat should definitely look thinner. They lose weight fast if not fed. How does your cat look to you?

There aren't any mice in my apartment, so I'm sure she hasn't eaten anything else.

She looks much thinner than before and since she's been sleeping all the time, she looks really lethargic when she wakes up to use the litterbox.

There isn't much in the box. Mainly urine.

What could possibly be wrong?

Is it normal for cats to sleep through winter?

Definitely is NOT normal. Have you tried to get her to eat by offering her something really tasty to her? Sometimes if cats get a cold they lose their sense of taste along with their sense of smell (OK - for you purists, I know they're one and the same) and need something with a good strong smell to stimulate their appetite. Try a little tuna, but only a very little. It's too rich for an empty stomach. If she eats the tuna straight, mix a little in with her regular food. If your kitty is still not eating by tomorrow, please see a vet first thing on MONDAY. I'm concerned this cat is ill, and that's why she's not eating. Most of the things that could cause this require medical attention. She is drinking water, then, since she's urinating?

I really worried. I think I should send her to the vet. She's drinking, but not much. Thanks for your advice.

Glad you're taking her to the vet, please let us know what they say.

Pretty much "ditto" to what Timskitties posted already. A cat that hasn't eaten in 4 days is not in good shape, and can trigger things such fatty liver disease. There could be a list of things that may be wrong, ranging from the quickly remedied to seriously serious. Crossing fingers for you that it's easily treatable.

I couldn't get time off work today, so my bf sent the cat to the vet this morning. The vet said right away that my cat was dehydrated. He also found that she had a fever and when my bf told him that she hasn't eaten for 4 days, immediately ran blood tests and Xrays.

The vet just called me. My cat has a mass in her lungs and the blood test showed that her white blood cell count is very high. He has put her on IV drips and said that she has already started eating a little, which is a good sign. The mass is "not too old" and doesn't need to be operated on. He mentioned something like "pneumonia" (I live in Tokyo and although the doctor speaks good English I couldn't understand his accent sometimes). He will keep her under observation for a few days and will give me a daily update.

I feel better now, but still can't help feeling worried and depressed. I cried my eyes out yesterday when I couldn't find a vet and found out that I couldn't take time off today, but I'm glad my cat now has the medical attention she needs.
