Okay...I am at a loss. I don't know what else to try. Binx will eat his breakfast (a 1/2 C scoop of dry food), but won't eat his dinner (canned soft food).
We used to feed both boys Nutro for dinner. Then, about a week and a half ago, Binx decided he didn't like Nutro anymore and would only eat Fancy Feast. Now, he won't eat the F.F.!! Tonight, I had to put the bowl on our kitchen table and entice him over before he would eat a little of it. I don't want him to get used to mom and dad letting him eat on the table, though. He won't even eat a whole 1 oz. of food anymore. But, put crunchy down in front of him, and he goes crazy for it. I want him to get the benefits of soft food, but he won't eat it. He just sniffs it, paws around it to try to cover it up, then walks away. If I tell him to come back and eat more, he'll give me a pitiful little meow to say, "But Mom, I don't want to." I don't know what to do. Any advice? |

I have two cats that just won't touch soft food no matter what kind it is, it could be that he has decided he just doesn't like it.
I'd say buy a good quality dry food and maybe try serving the hard with the soft to see if you can get him to eat soft again like that.

I personally don't believe that cats just "just don't like canned"....they have became addicted to dry. Have you tried mixing a few pieces of dry in the wet to get him to eat(remember not to leave it out for more than 15 minutes or bacteria will grow)?

I'm not buying that your cat doesn't like wet food if he's been eating it all this time and suddenly changed his mind. Something's up. Maybe they changed the formula in the other food and it turned him off of it...and now he's snubbing all wet food. I agree with mixing the wet and dry together and keep offering it to him like that.

I'll try putting in bits of the dry food, then. It won't be until tomorrow night, so we'll see how it goes. I'll update when it has all transpired.
Afterthought: I now understand what a pill I was for my parents, being such a finicky eater. I guess I just have to empathize with little Binx more than be frustrated that he won't eat. |

He might be getting picky. I'd try a few different brands or flavors and see if that perks his interest. You said he snubbed the Nutro, but would eat Fancy Feast, and now he won't eat either... he might be getting bored.

All cats are different and I don't think you can generalise on what a cat will or won't or can't eat. Perhaps in Binx's case, there may be something wrong and he feels that his stomach can't tolerate the soft food, perhaps he is just being finicky, I know Magnum is very very fussy and does get 'fed up' of foods occasionally and will go on a hunger strike (at least when I am watching).
