I just realised how many times I've taken Nya to the vet with a problem, in the almost 6 months that I've had her. First there was her initial visit, where they established she was severely underweight (having been starving to death on the streets i'm not surprised), and had fleas, bad ear mites, and an umbilical hernia (not serious). Plus she kinda walked funny, but that cleared up thank God. Then I took her in becuase she was feverish and not eating, and had just slept for 2 days, and had an infection of some kind (they never DID figure it out) and after a week or so on antibiotics she was fine. Then came her spay, which went okay but then she got infected. It's cleared up now thank God. Then there were her ear mites, which have been treated, and cleaned out, and treated again, and I STILL think she's got them... Plus she's always kinda had runny eyes, and her weight is only NOW getting to what it should be. And now I'm taking her in today for a suspected Urinary Tract Infection (that's what they said it probably was when I made the apt.) Is it normal for a cat to get sick this often?! I'm worried that my poor girl is always going to have health issues, and they're just going to keep getting worse

as with anything subject to random probabilities in life, there's a whole range of health from one extreme on one side (always sick) to the other extreme on the other side (healthy as a, well, horse). most of us fall somewhere in the middle, thank goodness. but, yes, it's quite possible that you've just got a sickly cat who is going to have more than her share of illnesses. that's just the way it goes. I wish I could promise you a positive outcome, and there's always the possibility things will improve, but then again, maybe they won't. so you have to be prepared for that, too, and decide whether or not you're willing to accept that.
my philosophy 101 for the day. |

Unfortunately, you can't know. Your cat may have more problems throughout its lifetime than most. Or, it may get beyond these and live forever with never another illness. She obviously has had a rough life and may just take time to overcome it all. On the other hand, it may always impact her health.

She certainly has had her problems, poor thing! It's hard to tell what the future will brings. I can only wish you the very best, and a little prayer that Nya will do better as she builds immunities. Poor baby!

Thanks guys, I'm still going to worry about her i think. The vet today told me she has a raging bladder infection, and has her on clavamox, but is worried since she's been on it a lot in the past few months, that she might be resistant to it... we'll see. The new vet also, since I told her how often Nya has had an infection of some kind, ran a glucose test for Diabetes. (which scared me, I don't think I could afford a diabetic cat at this point...and didn't want to think about it, since I cry THINKING about what will happen "one day" when she's not around anymore). Luckily it was fine, and she is not suspected to be Diabetic! YAY! One down. I really hope it's just her body taking it's time to recover from her hard stint on the streets.
