Hello, I am pretty concerned for my cat, Kaya. She is four and has recently been scratching at her chin. She rubbed into me hand the other day as i came home from work, and I noticed a blood mark on my hand. I checked her and saw that she had scratched so much that she made her chin bleed. I cleaned her chin with some water (i didn't know if neosporin could get back on her paws and then be ingested, so i used water). This seemed to work, and the area healed pretty quickly. now it is her whole chin area, both sides. What is causing this, and what can i do to help her heal?
Sincerely, Rob

well, do you know if she has fleas? she may have gotten fleas, you best bet is to take her to the doctor, if a cat is scratching themselves raw it could be more than just fleas...keep an eye on her for a little while, if this keeps up seriously consider taking her to a vet...

Thanks for the reply. I definitely will take her in to the doctor if this doesn't subside soon. I have two dogs who are her buddys, and they don't seem to have signs of fleas. She still acts just as bouncy, active, and loving as always. I just wondered if there was someone out there who might have had a simular thing occur, and might know the cause.

the only thing if it isnt fleas that comes to mind(but dont think its a reason to not go to the vet)is that she might be stressed or something shes rubbing against is bothering her....perhaps she got the injury from playing with your dogs or something, and in the process of it healing she keeps scratching it back open? whatever it may be, you cant take chances with cats because it could be serious and theyll pretend it never happened to them, so i guess, as i said before, take it to the vet...my kitten had a similar problem with her ear, but it was because of fleas(which we quickly eliminated)and it quickly went away when we gave her medication...does she scartch her neck in particular a lot?

Do you use plastic feeding dishes? It could also be something like Feline Acne, although you'd probably have noticed bumps or discoloration (other than blood).
She really should see a vet for proper diagnosis though.

I am just going to take her in to the vet. No amount of money is worth her health and happiness. I do appreciate your comments and suggestions. I am very happy that I found this site.
Kaya says thanks too -Rob
