Default Sore Butt

I noticed Cleveland doing a little butt drag this morning ( totally indoors and gets worming tablets so thnk I can rule that out). When I looked at his butt he looked a touch tender at one wee spot. I cleaned him just with warm water and a cotton pad and he didn't resist. Playing and eating normally. It kinda looks like he's had a tiny bit of poop dried on and when he's cleaned it off it's hurt him. Looks like a scab has been pulled off to early (best way I can think of describing it) It's only a wee bit but I worry Should a vet trip be in order or does this happen. He's not continually butt dragging. Only did it once

is it at either 9:00 am or 3:00 pm on the clock, with his anus as the clock? those would be the anal glands, and butt dragging ("scooting" is the technical term) is normally a sign of anal gland trouble. redness would indicate inflammation, possible anal gland impaction, which means the gland needs to be manually emptied ("expressed" is the technical term).

We had to do this to my dog once when he was younger. We took him the groomers and they did it. I think vets will do it too.

If his anal glands are impacted and you decide to take him to a groomers or a vet to get them expressed, it is REALLY cheap. Only costs $8 for my dog at the groomer!

And, they will teach you how to do it if you want to do the expressions yourself, if the problem occurs again.

We had a woman come in with her dog for the first time to express his anal glands and wanted to do it at home... she had NO IDEA what it etailed though and after watching it get done she goes "so if I see her start scooting again I should bring her on in right?"

Cats rarely have problems with them (in comparison to dogs) but Addison had to have his expressed. I think I may bring him back in because mom says she's seen him scoot a few times recently but I haven't. It wouldn't hurt to check though.

Ewwww!!! I don't even want to think about that SMELL!!! Have someone else do it. It is so worth the 8 bucks!

I was told that overweight animals have more trouble with their anal glands.

Dangggggggg. I could see a vet charging 20. We usually just take our dog to the groomer, who does it for 8 dollars.

Kana, I've also heard it occurs more frequently in overweight cats.

It was at 12 o'clock and has now gone! I haven't a clue what it was. No more scooting. I'm wondering if he had something rough in his poop and it scratched him. I'm going to keep a close eye on him though
