Default Ear problem

In Sugar Pie's left ear, there is a small patch of little red sores which looks like some kind of rash. I searched through some threads for a similar problem like this but came up empty handed, though i may have missed one. He has been scratching at his ear for a couple of weeks and I was wondering if I needed to make a vet visit or not ? I was hoping maybe i could purchase some over the counter treatment for him but I guess i need a correct diagnosis first. Which would probably be the vet.

He is indoor cat only. The rash is more towards the point in his ear and visible without having to try to see it, except when his long ear hair gets in the way.

Thanks for any advice you guys may have !

I took him to the vet.. and to me he seems to feel way worse than we went Of course the ride there wasn't fun and he was pretty upset because there were other cats there. But she said he had a bacterial infection and gave him a shot and some ear drops.

So he feels worse now after getting him medicine i feel bad and i really dread doing eardrops for a week but maybe he won't be to mad at me too long.

That's good you went to the vet. We might have guessed ear mites, which would have been the wrong guess. So your kitty's going to be OK, now.

Well, we'll both be dosing our cats at the same time, since Kitty has an ear infection also (diagnosed Monday). She didn't get a shot though. I'm just supposed to do eardrops for two weeks (so...you should be glad you only got a week!).

It's only been one day of eardrops and she already shuts her ear as soon as she sees me. Let me know if you figure out a good technique.
