Last Saturday, my girlfriend and I noticed that one of our two kittens wasn't doing his usual wake up call by jumping up on the bed. We found him sitting in a hallway chair, awake but sedentary. He was warm and had a dry nose. After waiting a couple of hours to see if he might perk up, we took him in to the vet. By the time the vet saw him, his nose was wet and his energy was much better. The doctor gave him a physical and said that he looked fine. We didn't do a blood test or x-rays and felt a little foolish for having rushed him to the vet.
Now, it's been 4 days and he's still very lethargic. He's not as warm as that first day and his energy is a little better, but he's not remotely as energetic as he used to be. Does anybody know what might have happened to him? At first, I thought that he must have gotten into something in the middle of the night like plant-eating or the toilet brush in the bathroom, but I can't find any evidence of misdoing and this feels a little long for an upset stomach. Do cats get the flu? I'm at a loss here. Should I take him in to a different vet or just chill out and wait for him to get better? |

What other symptoms does he have other than lethargy? Does he have diarrhoea, or is he sore or red anywhere? Is he eating/drinking/going to the toilet as normal?
If you are worried, and he's not himself, I would take him back to the vets and let them know your concerns. If they say he's ok, stress that he really isn't his normal self. Ems |

Trust your instincts that something just isn't right. Your vet should also have trusted you and at least done blood work. Better safe than sorry. And, yes, I might well choose a different vet. I would also check to see if there has been a weight change. I assume your vet at least took his temperature.
Don't ever feel foolish for caring or showing concern. If a vet makes you feel that way, find a new vet. However, your cats only way to get help is communicating with you and its actions is a large part of that. Can you always read them correctly? No. But you do the best you can. |

Well, there aren't any other recognizable symptoms. He isn't eating a whole lot and he doesn't have diarrhea. I thought that maybe he'd had an electrical shock but there isn't any evidence of that with his teeth or paws. He isn't red or sore anywhere as far as I can tell.
I was going to give him through tomorrow and if he doesn't perk up I'll probably take him to a new vet. |
