Maybe you could have just told him that Purina gives your cats diarrhea!! It does one of mine. I had to learn the hard way, before I learned about the Cat Forum.

I think we're all missing the most important point here...

statements like:
Quote:
The basic formula for cat foods is something like 30 percent protein, 15 percent fat, and 55 percent carbs.
we all see and comment on... but what about the fact that they never specifically said "your cat SHOULD be eating a food like this" just that most cat food is made up of this stuff.

I actually don't think they recommended anything that's GOOD for cats... just stated what pet food companies make them eat.

I'm surprised I've never seen our Science Diet rep at work or heard anything he's had to say... I'm sure I'd be the one in the back giggling

This is try... and obviously this was only for dry food and is over generalised at that... but they do say on bags of their food that it is nutritionally balanced while having these ingredients.

In a side note about the Hills Science Diet Rep...

The Science Diet guy swore too me that they had many nutritional experts that had come up with the optimum food for cats... and he could prove this by the fact that they don't make 'all life stages food' because 'well its plain stupid to think that a kitten eats the same as a cat or a cat eats the same as an elderly cat' which may be a valid point. Therefore, his proof that their food was the best was that they had nutritionally provided for different types of cats... in age, diseases, weight strategies etc... all of which would make sense while you are not looking at ingredients (or knowing you have a cat who throws up at the sight of a HSD food bag let alone while eating the stuff).

But his ending statement was the best.... Obviously its the best food you can feed your cats... otherwise they wouldn't sell it at your vets! Again he doesn't own cats or have any training... he is just the marketing rep... when will they start using people with at least some experience with cats?

But then being a cat owner, I don't think I would work for them!

You would think that they would have learned to just walk by me in the pet store by now? This is what I get for going to petsmart rather than an independent pet store... but its the only place I could get Worlds Best Cat Litter... but I found a Pet Valu that stocks huge bags of it now so I don't have to go there!
