Default Just a quick little question

How long to cats stay pregnant before they give birth? I know humans take 9 months to develope, but what about cats?

Are there any special things you should feed to a cat while they're pregnant? Maybe some things you might need to keep them away from or give them?

In a nutshell:

The average time is 65 days, but 63 to 69 days is still considered normal range. Siamese cats may carry their kittens 71 days.
If kittens are born before day 60, they usually don't survive.

For the pregnant queen during the first four weeks of pregnancy kitten food is best because it contains extra protein, calcium and other essential nutrients.
During the second half protein requirement increases, so the pregnancy ration should be increased by one-half unless the queen is overweight.
(Overnourished queens are likely to have fat kittens which can complicate labor.)

Supplementing the diet with treats, table scraps and choice cat foods is not recommended.

A healthy queen doesn't need vitamin and mineral supplements but they can be beneficial for a queen who is still recovering from an earlier pregnancy or illness.

The normal gestation period for cats is 63-65 days- some a little longer others may be shorter.

I would feed her a premium quality canned food for the first 4 weeks of pregnancy and then you can start her on a quality kitten food. My vet also recommended a Kitten Milk replacement in her last week of pregnancy- or what you think is the last wee.

As far as thing she should stay away from- I would just assume all the same things a non pregnant cat should stay away from.

Good luck!

Thank you so much! I had no idea if I should do anything different than normal. Now I know.

Thanks again!
