Default Bowel Problem?

I came home one day to find out that one of my cats, Mia (the 7 month old kit), had this clear mucus Gelitin oozing out from her bottom. It was on my bed sheet too! I checked the litter box and on the edge of it was the same ooz but with a bit of diarrhea. So I gave her a bath and then stuck her in an extra large dog crate with her own litter box and some water.

I'm not sure what's going on but I've noticed that she's been having Diarrhea or soft stool problems for a few months now and she goes, what seems like, quite frequently! I figured maybe it's her diet, like I should be giving her more dry food, which I've been feeding her now.

I took her to the vet only 2 days after the fact. The doctor did a physical and then asked to keep her for the night and put her on I.V., do x-rays and the works. However, I really felt that this was unnessary. I don't think that what Mia has is "that bad" that she needs to go through the stress. So I took her back home and have been monitoring her ever since.

She's been in the dog crate though for some time now. I've let her out a few times at night. I haven't seen anymore ooz, her stool has been hardening up, although sometimes still a little soft. I tried giving her some pumpkin but she won't eat it.

She has been meowing a lot lately, but with her personality, she's a very "talkative" kit. She's been spayed (actually she was this past April...she was showing signs of being in heat when she did get spayed), so she can't possibly be in heat (or can she still show/have symptoms?). I haven't seen any parasites, although I guess that doesn't mean that they are not there.

I figured that if she would appear to get "worse" that I'd take her back to the vet for the "examinations" but I still get this really weird feeling that I shouldn't take her back to the vet. So, rather then going against it I've been "taking care" of her myself.

Have any one of you ever experienced something similar with your felines? I have a "feeling" that she just may need a different diet. I was thinking of trying her on raw food. What do you all think or, even better, have experienced about this kind of condition?

The discharge of mucus concerns me. That could be caused by some kind of inflammatory process going on in the bowel. There are lots of things that might cause that. Sensitivity to food is only one. Actually, dry food is more likely to cause food sensitivity than wet. I think perhaps that your vet was going to go overboard on diagnostics, but that's no reason to rule out veterinary care for this. That sounds more like a case of needing a different vet. Let us know how your cat does.
