Our cats hated Whiskas few years ago, but lately I can't give them anything else - they're crazy about it.
Maybe they changed it.

Actually, the newer pouches that they came up are the WORST!!! My cats just smell them and go away.
I can ALWAYS taste preservatives, articial flavorings, hydrogenated soybean oil, and artificial sweetners myself. Sometimes I can taste the artificial colorings. Somehow all of those artificial stuff taste quite bitter to me (I guess that is because of genetics). My cats have a much keener sense of taste than me so I am pretty sure they can taste those things too. |

Our old cat , Tinker, would only eat Whiskas.
We tried Jimmy with Whiskas, but he wouldn't touch it. He will only eat Felix - I think that was what he was brought up on, so that's all he likes now. I think that's fairly good - its made by Purina. Anyway, its all he will eat (in terms of wet food - he'll eat any kind of dry) But he always hated the duck flavour, so I would have to get variety packs that didn't inlcude duck. Recently, Partner bought him some duck flavour by mistake, and guess what - he loves it now! So you never know with cats, I think their tastes can be quite changeable. seashell |

It seems like it's much harder in the UK to find foods that aren't commercial, all these brands you guys talk about are unknown to me. It kinda upsets me that people then procceed to bad mouth the food that I spend a fair amount of my wages on, rather than being constructive. I posted a question once on better British alternatives and I think about 3 people replied (thanks Emma_pen) I would truely like to know what alternatives there are, but it appears that quite a lot of people would just rather have a laugh at someone else's expense rather than help them out. Not aimed at anyone in particular, just in general. I think I will stay away from these kind of topics in future as I just end up getting upset. |

Heh I bought some Whiskas pouches for my kitten, mostly coz they were on special and he wouldn't be eating much as it was his first time trying wet food. He LOVES the duck and liver flavour, but isnt so hot on the ones that have veges eg Beef and Vegetables.
Good kitty, go for the meat. I'm from New Zealand and i think we have the same kinda deal with the food as in the UK. Not that it bothers me though, he likes the whiskas and its good for him And my first post! I came over here from the petshub forums. People seemed nicer over here and I had had a massive discussion over pet food...blaa blaa... anyway, nice to meet you all Roz |

We must be talking about totally different Whiskas foods on this forum. Around here the Whiskas pouches have those Spam-like fishy chunks floating around in cornstarchy gravy. I would love to get my hands on some duck-flavored Whiskas!!! Wait...many U.S.consumers choose those so-called "holistic" foods because they are uncomfortable with BHA, BHT, and GM foods. I thought all of those are banned in the U.K. I also thought that U.K has a lot stricter regulations on the animal by-products. So I guess technically any food that is manufactured in the U.K is technically "holistific food". |

I think that maybe the reason only 3 people replied is because many of us live in the United States and do not know what brands are available in the UK and therefore are not able to help. IMO I think you're doing great just by feeding your cats the best you can afford. I may not like certain brands but I agree that it isn't right to judge cat owners based on what brand of cat food they feed. After all we don't know their particular situation. It turns out not everyone in the US has access to brands like Wellness or Innova. They are only available in special stores, independent pet stores and big chains like Petco do not carry such brands. Just out of curiosity, what is the best brand of cat food available in the UK? Perhaps that's the brand to go with. |

Felix and Whiskers are the two most commercial and popular, but are by no means the best. I feed my cats Whiskers because as much as I have tried to educate myself about cat food, these are my first cats and I am aware that I still have alot of learning to do. However they like it and I know that they could be getting alot worse! Emma_pen has told me about a food that should be coming out soon, maybe I'll give it a whirl.
