I have been looking into Soft Paws. It is an alternative to Declawing.
http://www.softpaws.com/default.htm Im technically not supposed to have a cat and the only excuse our land lady could come up with was she didnt want the carpets destroyed. (this is an ongoing problem because when we chose the condo we are in... we specifically were looking for a place that would allow cats. we wanted a cat and when i was told during the walkthrough that one cat was allowed, we signed the lease. when we decided to be polite and let her know we were getting the cat now she pulled that one on us) So we figure if she ever found out about the cat and the cat had these SoftPaws on she couldnt really say much. Now my question is; does anyone know anything about this product other than what is on the website? does it actually work? are they worth trying out? anything helps. im opposed to declawing so we need to have other options cause the kitty is showing lots of love to the carpets already. |

I personally have never tried them, but they are supposed to last 4 to 6 weeks I think. I believe they sell them at Petsmart if you have one close buy. Probably how well they may work for you depends on whether you cat will let you glue them on her claws.

I think they're definitely worth a try, especially if the alternative is declawing. I've heard some good things about them, plus you can get outrageous colours so that they're really obvious if the landlady asks. But I'd be asking the landlady to point out the part of my lease where it says "no pets."
Also, try putting down a couple of cheap-o heavy braided rugs from the discount store or some sisal welcome mats...they're usually MUCH more attractive to cats than regular carpeting for scratching purposes. |

My experience is they work intermittently. When they stay on, they work well. The problem I noticed was they didnt always stay on...many would pop off within a week and you would have a cat with 3 colored soft paws, and 2 normal claws. Im sure the proper amount of glue is important, but its hard to balance that without putting on so much that it spills over on the cats paws.

Love 'em love em love 'em.
My cat has been wearing them for about 6 months. They have stayed on really well- use a lot of the glue. She has been wearing the same soft paws for about 2 montns and finally one fell off yesterday. I order the from a seller on ebay. Their name is pawschoice. They are really friendly, fast and cheaper then the petstores. They also send you extra glue tips- which is needed and a toy. Here is a pickof my cat, Elliott, wearing them. ![]()

If your cat tolerates getting their claws trimmed, then softpaws are great. Otis wore them for the longest time, and I had no problem whatsoever. Jazz, however, had her first set put on while she was getting fixed at he vet before coming home to me... When they started to fall off, she was not yet at the stage where she tolerated her paws being handled for long, so after a lot of struggles I just stopped using them.... The stress on her and me of first clipping the claws them applying the paws was too much.... and when she was ready, she was great at using her scratching poles, so I decided to spend the money on important things - like treats and toys
So to make a long story short - great product, but like anything, it may depend on the kitty...

I will agree that it was a little bit of a struggle at first. I would put a few on and then give her treats. ABout and hour later I would put a few more on and then give her more treats. It may take a few hours, but I would eventually get them all on. Now, it really isn't an issue.

is this a new cat? Does your cat scratch carpet?
I just adopted a 1.5yo and he scratches his posts and things, and a bit of the furniture, but not the carpet. Just wondering if it's a new cat, if so, it might not scratch the carpet at all.
