They removed the drain on Monday, and since then I've noticed a lot of crusties on his ear, which they told me to expect, because even with the drain removed, some fluid may still come out of the incisions (which were left open). I've been cleaning his ears with a warm wet cloth (much to his dismay, he's HATED IT), and today took the collar off to do a better job, as there was a LOT of gunk crusted in his fur around his ear. I noticed that the back of his ear was swollen, and as SOON as I had the collar off, he started complaining. Everytime he shakes his head he's crying out. I called the vet, and got "uh oh, better bring him in today." My appointment is in an hour and a half. I really just want him to be BETTR!

So here's what had happened: They left some cotton in his ear after the surgery to absorb what came out of the drain. When the drain was removed, it was also supposed to have been removed, but wasn't. His ear is now slightly infected, and they think will take longer to heal because of this setback.
On the up side, the visit was free, and medication was free because of their error. His stitches come out in a week, here's hoping he's back to normal by then!
