Default Hysterectomy?

I went to petsmart to see the plans that the Banfield hospital offers for cats. I was looking over the pamphlet and I saw that it says "hysterectomy/Castration surgery" what does this mean? Why would this be on there? Does my cat need this? Does anyone have one of these plans? Is it worth dropping all that money into one? They are very expensive and money is kind of tight...so I just wanted to get the scoop from you all. Thanks!

I'm not sure what the plan is you're speaking about... But by hysterectomy/castration surgery, I assume they mean spaying and neutering. They are very important procedures, very much worth the money!

That does mean spaying/ neutering. I don't know what the plan is you're talking about but it's really important to sp. or neut. your cat. If money is tight you may want to check with your local humane society. They often offer low cost spaying and neutering. I don't know how old your cat is but it's best to try to get it done by the time they're 5 or 6 months before they sexually mature. But it's never too late!

Wow, I'm an idiot. I guess I just thought that a Hysterectomy was a different kind of sergery because someone once told me they had to spend $800 for the cat to have one because something went wrong. SO i didn't think it was just a normal spay operation. Yes, she will be spayed at 4 or 5 months old, trying to figure out which is better. Thanks for the replies!

Maybe the person who spent $800 was paying for a pyometra spey?
