Default Adding water to canned food

I have been reading many of the posts about wet food. Several posters have suggested adding additional water to canned food. How much water shoud be added? One of my cats has calcium oxalte crystals in his urine. I want to keep him well hydrated.

I think the idea behind adding warm water was just to make the food more appealing to cats who don't want to eat wet food. It already has a high water content. More water intake would of course be beneficial to a cat with crystals.

My vet told me to add water because she always eats then fills up at the water dish and starts gaging. I just guesstimate at making it a little soupy, but not diluting the gravey too much.
