Default Sudden Blindness after surgery

Buddy was a happy go lucky 3 year old domestic long hair. He recently had a problem passing a fur ball. He was vomiting and lost appetite for around 3 days. The decision was made to open him up to see what the problem was. It turned out to be a fur ball that could not get passed his stomach. He made it out of surgery fine and was okay for about 3 or 4 days. Then he suddenly went blind. Has anyone heard of this? What are the odds he'll see again. He's not adjusting to blindness very well. His pal Mrs. Bigglesworth is also very upset.

I'm sorry to hear that. This isn't good.
I haven't ever heard of it. What does the vet have to say?

What did they use to sedate the cat? I've read that a side effect of Ketamine is 'blurred vision or blindness'.

I have experienced this once whilst I've been nursing. The cat did regain full sight with time. I hope your vet is supporting you as although this was probably inevitable, it was still their responsibility.

Was or is your cat now on antibiotics? I have heard that Baytril (antibiotic) manufactured by Bayer is known to cause blindness in cats by causing detached retinas. I am not saying this is what is happening with your cat just the first thought that came to mind.

I know that one common cause of blindness in cats is high blood pressure. I don't know if this could somehow be related to surgery or not. What does your vet say?
