Default black watery stool

I have some kittens who are about 4 weeks old. I rescued them from a hoarder. There were 8 orginally, but only 5 survived. The five I have now are from two sepearate litters and some are very scrawny.

Here is my dilema. They were all having healthy bowel movements on a diet of A/D. Now they have begun watery dark stool and I don't know what to treat them for.

I don't know what dark watery stool is an indication of.

Thanks for your help.

I believe a black stool can mean blood, but it is certainly something to get looked at.

Maybe someone else can give a better answer than I can.
Hope it turns out alright!!

Black stools that look tarry usually means hookworm. Watch what you get for your kitten to correct this because some wormers have made kitten sick, even ones from the vet's.

I would take them into the vet to check it out. And with kittens that young I would definately not give a dewormer or any med. without talking to the vet first.

thanks to all of you for your input on my question.

I have good news though. I finally figured out what was going on. These kittens were taken from a collector's home where they had lived in filth. It appears they had horrible bacteria or whatever in their digestive tracts and the one round of Amoxi they had iniitally hadn't cleared it up completely. I put everyone back on Amoxi and now they all have firm stool. Thanks again.
