Default what I feed my babies

Hi there.... new to the board. As far as food goes... several years ago I started giving my 3 indoor cats, “human grade” ingredient foods like Wellness, Innova and Evolve. Shadow was our miracle black cat. He had a kidney removed when he was 9. He started developing IBD (Inflammatory bowel disease) and CRF (chronic renal failure) when he was 12 and at that time we were giving him (and the others) commercial cat foods. Shadow was also given sub-q fluids under the skin at home by my husband and myself. He lost so much weight and he would not eat. We picked up the book called “The Veterinarians Guide to Natural Remedies for Cats” and started reading about foods like Wellness and Innova. Gradually these foods were introduced into his diet. To make a long story short... Shadow got better from that food. We were also giving him fruit pectin in his food and this fiber is the kind that helps bind you up a little. We were also giving powdered acidopholus to him. Sadly he went into acute kidney failure with his only kidney and had to be put to sleep on May 9, 2005. He would have been 16 in July. I have 2 scottish folds: Kasey just turned 15 and Cinder will be 4 soon. Taz is our newest and he is 6 months old and a male Tonkinese.

I am sorry for the loss of your kitty. It's good to hear the non-commercial foods helped. I recently switched my cat to Innova and he seems so much healthier now than when he was on the Purina stuff. I used to remember as a kid my mom saying the Purina was premium food and too expensive. Crazy.

Welcome to the board. I'm sorry to hear about your kitty but glad he got better with the new food for a while. I had the same experience with my cat, Sundance, who had skin allergies and IBD. After switching him to Wellness, acidopholus and some supplements everything completely cleared up nd he lived a happy healthy life until he was 15 when he was diagnosed with cancer and evenually I had to put him to sleep last year. He, also, would have been 16 in July! Now I'm cat food fanatic and still trying to learn everything I can about cat nutrition so I can give my kitten and his 6 year old brother a better start.

Hi Nanook and everyone.... I am sorry to hear about Sundance... that is sad... but the good thing was you took the time to try some different things go get him better. I would say from my experience the best food is the kind like Wellness, Innova, Eagle, Evolve, etc... that have human grade ingredients and not by products.
