Default Thomas jumped in my lap tonight and guess what!?!

So he jumps up in my lay and he rubbed up against my arm, not sure if it was his fur or his butt or what but i felt somthing wet on my arm, i thought at first it was slobber but i looked down at it anyway and it looked like a noodle. I looked at it for a few seconds and it started moving on my arm. EWWWW it was a little tiny tape worm or somthing. It was small and flat but it was only like 1" long.

Should i start looking at his stool? I think hes been hunting and eating birds and mice hes been catching around the yard.

I dont know how i will get him to eat any medicine. This is going to be tricky.

Hes to smart for me to hide it in his food yet hes dumb because he eats nasty mice and birds around the yard. Jeesh

Ain't life grand! Yuck, I had the same thing happen once with my cat. As you were discribing it I could feel that cold thing all over again. Ah! Flashback! O.K. I'm being a wee bit dramatic. Anyway it was tapeworms. I would bring a stool sample into the vet and they'll usually just give you a dewormer to give Thomas as long as they've seen him within the past 12 months. Then you probably need to treat him for fleas since that's how they get them. Good luck!

It can start with fleas OR raw animals. Any kind of uncooked meat.
As long as he is allowed to hunt you'll have to deal with this problem on an ongoing basis.

With my Beans being the great kitty hunter I have to give her worm meds once a month. Its not her favorite thing but it beats having worms.

Yes, they can get some types from raw animals but the most common cause of tapeworms are fleas.

Is there anything else i can do besides rub poison on him? I dont feel to good about doing that. SPecialy with the horror storys ive read on this site about that one brand killing the cats. He wasnt to happy with me the last time i put some on the back of his neck. I could feel some tension last time. He didnt seem to like me much and i was afraid to pet him also.

I do notice some little dry bumps around his head and neck area that feels like dried blood but i never see any fleas on him. Where do they come from? where do they go after they bite him? Are they so small you cant see em?

Take him to the vet. Tuxie got tapeworms couple of months ago. I simply took samples of what came out of her and they concluded that it was tapeworms and gave her a shot. She was super good with the shot, didn't even finch! After a day, it was all gone!

Revolution is safe and it will protect against fleas, which transmit tapeworms, and also directly control roundworms and hookworms. Also heartworm and ear mites as a bonus. But it's a preventative, so you need to have your cat dewormed first.

Fleas are extremely difficult to see on a cat because of the thick hair and their small size.

Don't panic....this happens to almost everybody at least once.

What about the stuff you put in the carpet and where they lay? Im starting to notice little bites on my arms so i think they are jumping off and biting me now.

The first thing he does when he goes out side is rolls around in the dirt. I know its to get the smell of the smoke off him because he dont like it. I cant help that my dad is the smoker, it sucks i hate it too.

I read there is powder that i can sprinkle into the places he likes to lay and ive found a few spots outside where he goes. Can i sprinlke this poweder stuff in the dirt and in the yard as well as the carpet?

Why do these stupid things exsist? ticks, fleas, misquitoes i hate these little creatures they suck.
