One of my cats has horrible gas, all the time. I researched it on the internet and found that it could be caused by parasites. A few months ago I was afraid my cat had parasites because she had diarrhea, the vet tested her poo and said no. She is gaining weight and she isn't thin, but now I am starting to think she really does have something. Anyone have any ideas? I am planning on calling the vet again too

Sure, another vet call wouldn't be amiss. The problem with those fecal tests is that it's not always accurate. I'll never forget this one - took my Kayla for tests, everything was just "fine" although I insisted something was wrong - gassy, very soft poop. I planned to take her to another vet the next day. Barely TWO hours home, Kayla shoves her butt in my face, and some wriggly white things are there.
If there are absolutely no worms, then the next thing to look at would be the food. Some foods can cause gas. Good luck with your continuing research, and hopefully you can get it resolved soon.

Fecal tests aren't very good at finding tapeworms, because they don't shed their eggs into the bowel. When you see a little white "grain of rice" crawling out of your cat's anus, then you know you've got tapeworms.
But if you're feeding your cat "grocery store" brands of cat food, that's a prime suspect for your problems. |

Tuxie has tapeworms few weeks ago. At first I saw just one little white thing on her rectum and the first thing I thought of was worms and started to research it. When I looked again it was gone so I thought I was just imagining things or that she just sat on some little pieces of white paper. Couple weeks went by and then I saw the white things on her rectum again, this time there were more. That told me that she has worms and immediately made plans to take her to the vet. She was also very gassy and stinky. Since I couldn't go to the vet the next day, I saw a lot of sesame seed like things on the place where she sleeps and I mean A LOT. The next day she went to the vet and got a shot for the worms. After that she was not gassy anymore. Maybe once every 2 weeks but that's it.
She may have the early signs of worms that's why you don't see it yet. |

Not saying it isn't worms, but my parents bought a cat whose owner told them she could only eat Puruna and Iams brands. Those Purina made her vomit and Iams gave her NASTY gas. I'd watch your cat for a couple days to see how it does on the Wellness.

Just an update...
Later on I saw blood in her poop. I took the sample in and it was clear of course. Finally the vet said bring her in. Now she is on some meds to kill any possible parasites. The vet said that the wroms may not be active, but she could still have them. The vet gave her Ponazuril and Anthelban She had the same problem on wellness, I had given her that for months. |
