Default Is there something wrong with my cat?

My cat is a little over a year and half old. She recently gained some weight and has this stomach buldge. Almost like she is pregnant, but she is spayed. Is there something wrong?

Yea, at this point I think it would be hard to say, does she get plenty of exersize and go outside at all?

Does it cause her any pain when you touch it, and what does it feel like? hard?

Does she eat and drink normally?

Did she have the bulge when you first had her?

It could be genetic. 3 of our cats have it (same family).

Oh, it sounds like she has "baggy sack." Marcellus has that big time. His is huge and it quite "alive" at times. His jiggles when he walks and when he sits down to groom his tummy, well you would think he was huge! It all spreads out! It's actually amost all skin according to the vet. Although he is a bit overweight and I do have to watch his weight, he's not that much so.
Although it can, and often means a cat is overweight it doesn't always. Some cats do just have that. If you are concerned, talk to your vet, determine if it's too much weight, could or may not be. Of course, if you are concerned about other things certainly discuss it with your vet but personally, it just sounds like a case of the the "baggy sack." I've also heard that spayed females can get that depending upon how the the spay was done. And I would agree too that it is often genetic.

Thanks for all the replies. I did call the vet today and am taking her in tomorrow. She didn't have it when we got her and we've had her about 6 months. It's like all of a sudden she got a belly! And she isn't playing with our other cat like she used to. I tried to touch it and she did act like I was hurting her so I think the vet needs to check it out. I'll let you know what she says.

My Rocky has a "baggy sack". Never called it that before but cute name for it. She needs a tummy tuck. I think it happened because of the way the vet spayed her like you said. She was never too heavy. But that little tummy is hanging and it jiggles back and forth when she runs. I have her doing laps around the diningroom table with me. Now if I could get her to do situps! Her stomach area is not painful to her if we touch it. So if your cat looks like it is in pain good idea that you made a vet appt to check it out.

I would definitely agree with you that if it seems painful to her you should have her seen. Keep us posted.

Well, we just got back from the vet. The weight in her stomach is actually fluid. The vet thinks it is FIP, which there is no cure for. We did have some tests run and we will hear back tomorrow, but it doesn't look good. We gave her an antibotic and had some of the fluid taken to give our kitty some relief. We have her separated from our other cat until we know more.

I'm so sorry to hear that news. Lets hope the Vet is wrong this time. But if he isn't I hope your kitty isn't in too much discomfort. Thoughts are with you.
