Another update:
After being on the antibiotic she was acting better and using the litterbox fine. However, in the past couple days she started peeing everywhere again. There didn't seem to be any blood in it this time. So back to the vet for another culture since no of the antibiotics have totally cleared up the problem. The FIP test results seemed to reveal that she had been exposed to it, but didn't have it and her system had been able to fight it off. Basically the titer(sp?) results and bloodwork tests seemed to show that she didn't currently have FIP. |

FIP is impossible to diagnose using bloodwork alone. FIP is a corona virus and as such, many cats will test positive for exposure to a corona virus on a blood titer. That doesn't mean they have FIP or were even exposed to it. There are lots of corona viruses and they don't all cause FIP. Most Vets won't take the time to explain this unless you press them about it. No fault of theirs, because most people don't want the details.....they just want their cat to get better. FIP can be ruled out or in, with a test that removes some spinal fluid. It's called CSF test. Most smaller Vet clinics can't perform this test. Vet teaching hospitals do it on a regular basis. I wonder if she associates her litterbox with painful urinating now, since she had blood in her urine before. You might want to get an entirely new litterbox. If she had a hooded one before...use an open pan. If is was open before, use a hooded one. Fake her out, in case she thinks the litterbox is a bad place now. Just an idea....I'm at a loss to explain the inappropriate elimination. |

Well the culture came back negative again. The vet says the next thing may be an ultrasound to look for a viral or bacterial infection deep in the bladder walls. She was doing fine for a few days and then today she peed on the carpet again. $1200 later and we still don't know what's wrong.

Did you do what Bengal Man suggested and get a different litterbox, maybe move it to a different spot and completely clean it so none of the old smell is on it?
Another reason she could be peeing when vet tests are healthy is that she still smells her pee everywhere. If you didn't clean the spots completely with an enzyme cleaner and a black light to make sure you got all of them, she will still be able to smell it. Soaps and detergents don't work on kitty noses.
