Default Help! I'm about to go crazy! What's wrong with my cat!

Ok, I'm made a couple posts about the various problems with my cat and I don't know if I can take much more of this! I'm crazy about my cat, but it's just so frusterating!

It all started when she was peeing all over the place and the pee looked pink(bloody) and the vet thought it was a bladder infection. He took a urine sample and put her on antibiotics(Claramax or whatever it's called.) and she was ok for a few days until she wouldn't hardly eat and had diarrea everywhere. This was right around the time the urine results came back with a culture that was negative.

Next step the vet does some blood work including testing for FIV and FeLV(I think those are the two.) All the blood work came back fine. He also did an x-ray thinking she might have bladdar crystals or stones, which did not show up, but her lungs showed some hazy spots. So he put her on 2 types of antibiotics supsecting that it was pneumonia.

One of the antibiotics made her like a druggie cat, her eyes would get all dilated and she would walk really slow and not do much other than sleep and eat. She did stop peeing everywhere though.

Two weeks later she had another x-ray which showed parts of her lungs had cleared up, but one lobe had no improvement. He continued one of the antibiotics(not the sedative drug cat one) and said he wanted to take another x-ray in 3 weeks.

Ok so now it is 2 weeks later(1 week before the hopefully, last lung x-ray) and she has started peeing everywhere. She pees like every 5 minutes. Sometimes stuff comes out(not much usually) but sometimes it seems nothing comes out at all. It also looks like it's pink again. She acts much better than she did originally a month or so ago, she's very perky and always meowing and running around, but she pees all the time all over the place!

Sorry this is so long, and I'm going to call the vet tomorrow, but I wish they could figure out what is wrong with my cat! The vet didn't know why a young indoor, otherwise healthy cat would develop pneumonia. He said it's possible that she could have FIP which is causing all these infections and stuff, but I just don't know what to do anymore! I can't take her peeing everywhere every 5 minutes. I don't even know where she has peed, I have to keep track of her all the time. I'm about to lose it here, help!

do you have another vet around? How long have you been with this vet? Maybe a second opinion is in order. Poor kitty.

Alos could the medicine be causing some of the reaction,

my cat had medicine the Vet though was making her thirsty all the time, she drinks alot of water, and thankfully make the litter box, except sometime goes over the side.

I think you almost have no choice but to confine her until she shows some improvement, but be carefull not to leave her lying in a mess. Be strong, she needs your understanding.

That sounds A LOT like she is blocked. I would definitely get a second opinion ASAP!! If she is blocked, they will have to put a catheter in which will allow her to urinate, and that means a couple of days at the clinic.

First of all, you should have had the urinary test back immediately telling your vet if there was an infection. The culture is only to tell him what kind of antibiotics to use that the infection is not resistant to. That should be a big red flag to see another vet!! Good luck, and I hope your baby starts feeling better!!

We really like the vet we go to, there are actually 4 vets there although we have been seeing the same one. He said he had consulted with the other vets and the radiologist about the pneaumonia to see if they agreed that that was what the x-ray was showing.

My husband stayed home from work today and is taking her to the vet again. She does pee so I'm not sure if she is blocked, could she be constipated or something? Her urine is bloody so I don't know. She just goes all the time, a little bit at a time.

Oh and they did do a urine test first at the office and nothing came up so they did a culture which came back with no growth at all. I think he did say that they usually take 2 or 3 no growths before an infection can be completely ruled out. We have been to the vet so many times lately for both cats it's hard to keep track of what they've done and what's going on.

It is about time to get a black light. At least you can be able to see where she had peed.

I work at a vet clinic, and if the urine is EVER tinted red there is definitely something wrong within the urinary tract itself. Since she is female, blockage is LESS likely, but I would definitely have your vet check out her kidney function as well. It could be FLUTD, here are some websites that describe the symptoms pretty clearly.

http://www.newmanveterinary.com/flutd.html

Obstruction is more common in males than females, so this probably isn't your problem. I just read that she was squatting and straining and jumped to conclusions without paying attention to gender. I understand your loyalty to your veterinarian, but if you have went through that many rounds of antibiotics for pneumonia, and your cat is STILL having blood tinged urine, he obviously is missing something. Most vets will not be offended if you question their diagnoses, and our vets will usually refer the animal to our University for further examination if the treatments are not helping. Pneumonia would NOT cause bloody urine, and no matter what he says that is NOT normal.

I hope this vet trip will help you out! Good luck!

I have to agree with you, Pneumonia will not cause bloody urine.
I would hate to have to cope with what you are coping with. I have been so lucky that my cats have never had a problem with urinating.

Hope things start turning around, how stressful.

UPDATE:

Well, my husband took the cat in yesterday and they did another urine test. They did find bacteria this time, so more antibiotics. They also did a FIP test. If that comes back negative, he said they may have to do an ultrasound to look for any other problems with her bladdar, kidneys, etc. that may not show up on an x-ray. They x-rays showed that her lungs are all clear now.

The vet never said that pneumonia was causing the urine problems, but that stress from being sick in one way may have lead to having bathroom problems, although it wouldn't cause bloody urine. Her bathroom problems did go away while she was on the first round of 2 different antibiotics.

So last night we tried to give the cat the liquid medicine and she freaked out! She threw up and started foaming at the mouth! I've never seen a cat do that before! We watched her carefully and she stopped after about 15 min and acted fine after that. We left a message with the vet to see if the medicine is available in pill form.
