Default My baby has pink eye.

Hi, I am new to the forums. I have three cats. My indoor fur baby, Toodles, and two outdoor cats, Angel and Jasper. Angel is Toodles momma. Jasper was my brother in laws, til he moved.

I took Toodles into the vet today (a little earlier than planned, her shots werent due for a few weeks) because her eye has been red and swollen for a couple of days. I first noticed it Mon. night. However, when I got home last night (Tues.) it looked awful. So I went ahead and took her in today. At first, our vet thought she had an ulcer in her eye, but after a through exam, he determined that it was conjuctivitis. He gave us some ointment for pain, and another ointment for the infection. I am just a little concerned tonight because she is sleeping more than usual. She ate her supper. Could the vet visit this morning have worn her out that much? Our vet told me that these eye infections can turn serious in a hurry. If she began running a fever, would I be able to detect it, I mean, will she feel warm/hot to the touch like one of my two-legged children? Does anyone know what the normal temp. for a cat is?

You may have upset her sleeping schedule a little, and that's why she is sleepy now, it probally is good to let her sleep for the healing of the eye infection.

Welcome to the forum, you've come to a good place, and hopefully someone more knowledgeable can help with your other questions.

I have 3 too, and one is limping tonite, she has gotten up too high before and hurt herself and I think it was the kitchen counter this time,

seems to be right leg raises high then she comes down more heavily on the left leg, but she is weight bearing, I'll be calling on the Vet tomorrow,

these animals, I wish you the best of luck with yours, you sound like your doing a great job for them.

Thank you so much for your reply!!!!

I guess the vet visit this AM did disrupt her sleeping schedule, she's usually camped out in the morning sun in the living room!!!!

Hopefully these meds will kick in and her eye will look better by tomorrow afternoon.

I do hope that your cat didnt injury herself jumping off the counter top!!

These animals, they do have a way of working themselves into your heart!!

Welcome to the forum!
It's pobably just stress from going to the vet. Mine always sleep a lot when they get back. However, keep an eye on her and if she doesn't perk up I'd call the vet.
I think the normal temp for a cat is 101 so they always feel warm.

Toodles seems to be better. Her eye does not look as good as I thought it would after being on medicine for four days. He had to dialate(sp?) her eye, and it still lookd dialated. Is that normal? She is scheduled to go in for a re-check on Mon., but I am begining to wonder if I should have taken her in this AM.

I agree that a vet visit takes alot out of a cat. Our vet was so cute talking to our cat on her last visit saying how it is so strange for her to be taken out of her home and to the vet. She is use to her environment. He talks so gentle to her while rubbing her little head. He is so great. But Rocky always takes a good nap after being to the vet. And she is always so happy to get home again. I hope your kitty's eye improves. If you have any question on whether you should take her in, give your vet a call. You might feel better after talking to him.

I thought we were in the clear, but alas, Toodles other eye is now red and watery. I started putting the ointment in that eye. Her other eye still looks dialated, the vet said that once I stopped giving her the ointment for pain, that it should clear up, but it still hasnt, not completely anyway. Anyone here had a cat with pink eye before?

Mz Tess had an eye infection a couple months ago.
A watering & goopy pink eye looking junk in her one eye.
The vet said it was good I brought her in right away
as eye problems can do serious permanent
damage right away.

She did a corneal eye staining to check Mz Tess's eye
and perscribed Neobacimyx with Hydrocort according
to my bill. It cleared it up in about 5 days.

I know that is not the medicine Toodles is on. I think I will be taking her back to the vet on Mon. morning. I know when this first started, he said that eye infections on cats can cause a more serious problem if not treated in a timely manner.
