Default Satan's sore...

I'm not sure where to put this...im sure it will get moved. Anyway...as some of you know a while ago I posted about Satan having a sore above his eye next to his ear and it was really red and icky because he had been itching it.

Well we got medicine for it and put it on him and been giving him stuff in his treats and it seemed to be getting better and drying up but everytime it was about to heal he'd scratch it and it would bleed and become open again.

Anyway, instead of being close to his ear like it first was:

It has slowly moved in the same general area but NOW...it's moving closer to his eye but up more in the middle of his head. It's very weird...

(No his eye isn't shut because of the sore he was just laying on his face...his eyes are fine)

AND NOW..he's starting to have 2 littles ones on the otherside of his face.

We don't cut his nails:

Because he gets so upset and we are affraid we're going to hurt him but this is rediculous and I've convinced my mom that it's NOT going to get better on it's own. SO we are taking him to the vet on Saturday morning to get his nails clipped and have them give him medicine that we can just either give him in his food or I can give him orally. Which I never used to have a problem doing when he was younger and got sick but he's a HUGE full grown cat now and he's got some power behind him whe he doesn't want you to do something to him so we'll see how that goes if I have to give it too him orally.

We are going to have them show us how to clip his nails so we don't hurt him but we have control...because seriously I used to cut his nails but he'd move around so much that I'd cut too far.

I feel horrible coming out in the morning and seeing his sores bleeding. It makes me so incredibly sad because I try everything to get him to stop itching them. If I see him do it I make a loud noise or if Im right there I'll put my hand infront of his foot and he'll bite me because I'm in the way. I just want him to be soreless ...

I don't know what we'll do if he has to have a cone because he sleeps under my bed alot and if he can't get under he'll be all stressed out and upset! ...but at the same time he'll heal faster if he has a cone and isn't able to scratch it.

Anyway...wish me luck getting him in his carrier and HOPEFULLY he won't poo on himself like he did last time when we took him to the groomers...what a horrible experience if you all remember.

Bye.

(I'll take better pictures of his sores tomorrow...or later when he comes out from the room)

Hope he gets better. He really needs an e-collar till it's completely healed. Scratching right before it's healed ruins all the progress up to that point. I know he won't like it, but you gotta do what you gotta do

I've gone ahead and moved this into Health and Nutrition for you. It was either here or Behavior but since you're not 100% sure what's going on, I figured here was good. Good Luck!!!

Would something like this help when you need to trim the nails?

Me too...I just came out after waking up and they are all bleeding. Argh it makes me so sad. I obviously can't stop him from scratching while im sleeping!

He does ruin all the progress of it healing when he scratches it again and it's so aggravating. We gotta get control of him...he think's he's top "dog" in the house but we gotta show him whos boss and it certainly isn't him..

lmfao no he wouldn't even let us near him with that. He's a bizzare cat...he has some issues and feral tendencies so things that are bigger, smaller, move fast, look weird, smell different,loud... are all....scary to him.

If by the slight and I mean very slight chance he'd let us put that on him...after the first time he wouldn't let us touch him. He's smart...same thing with the medicine i was putting on his sore. The first 2 times he would just lay there and purr and now he sees the bottle and hides.

Scotty is also a pain to trim. What Brandon and I have found that works (much better than a towel) is for him to place Scotty on his back, grip him under the arm pits and Brandon will place his own knees on either side of Scotty so he can't move (Scotty tends to kick Brandon in his nether-parts in this position).

Now, it works great for us, because I can trim quickly enough that it doesn't get too tedious. Also, Brandon blocks Scotty's mouth so he can't bite me.

Another thing to keep in mind...make sure whoever is holding the cat down hasn't eaten anything that causes gas...you don't want a surprise.

Trust me -- him being stressed about the e-collar is better than him having open bleeding sores with the potential of infection. I would go with the lesser of two evils to help him heal.

Now what to do once they heal...hmmm.....
Are you positive the fleas are gone? If so, perhaps there is some sort of food allergy he is having? What brand and flavor of food does he eat?
I also think you'll need to start doing the nails regularly. The more you do it, the better he will get at it. My cats were terrors the first few times I did it. Now they just sit there like they are at a spa. What I do is kind of "sit" on them. basically I kneel on the ground with them between my legs -- their head facing out. Then I crouch over them (I think they like being enclosed like this -- they purr really loud and go limp) to do the nails. I keep a treat bag right in front of their face and give them a treat after 1-5 nails depending on how quick I can go. It works like a charm.

Until you are confident and Satan is more at ease, don't worry about cutting them to exactly the right length. Just cut the very tip off to get him (and you) used to it.
