the kittens died while i was at work and my husband had already disposed of the bodies (both time not one event) i talked to my mentor about it and she reminded me that i should have inspected the bodies for defects but at a 50% rate of loss Leia's breeding days are over ... i bought her before i had a mentor and before i really knew what i was doing and her confermation and bloodlines aren't really up to the same standards that i would hold for my cattery now she has more of a prestwick type and i am really going more towards the more cobby round cheeky apple faced teddy bear like type (that needs a better name) and who i am dissapointed to say has left the CFA for the TICA the biggest two reasons i bred Leia this time are that i wanted to give her another chance and i wanted her to be available to foster some of Athena's kittens because Athena has proven to carry Large litters and this Litter she is carrying right now is VERY important to me (not that any aren't) because i bred her to one of Permes older lines and i will be taking a female out of this litter for a queen (crossing my fingers)

Good luck with Athena's litter, hope there's a special girl in there for you.

Sorry I missed this. What breed do you ....breed? And sorry about your situation with Leia. Time to retire her for sure. She isn't what you want. I hope Athena provides you with a better queen.

If somebody wanted a purebred, but didn't want to support the practice with buying, it IS possible to get them from a shelter. It's not very often they come in, but it's not totally rare either. Our shelter got an absolutely gorgeous F3 Bengal. A'course we had her spayed before adopting her out, just like all our other kitties.

I've considered a Papillion if I ever get a dog. There are quite a few purebreds on Petfinder within 100 miles, last I looked.

I am sorry you lost kittens..and the disappointment of your queen not working out.

I am further sorry that some are critical of the practice of retiring re-homing. It's a wonderful opportunity for the cat and a new owner!

My sister got a lovely BSH that was retired from a breeding program - she got a drop-dead gorgeous cat - nuetered, vaccinated, and well adjusted cat for the same as what she was seeing on Petfinder. It was perfect for her as she wanted to skip the kitten stage.

I have both purebred cats with lots of titles and I have six adopted cats (they live in my barn) I love them all.

I might add that our adopted/rescue cats have cost us a lot more than the cats we purchased from a breeder - mainly from lack of care as a stray...or the high density of animals in the shelter.

Bottom line - no one makes anyone buy from a breeder....but I am grateful for the choice and for breeders who are willing to sell nice kittens/cats.

Your girl is lucky to have you select a great pet home for her!
