Default discovored a back yard breeder in my town

the other day my mentor emailed me asking me what i knew about a breeder in my town i looked into her cattery and discovered that she is recklessly crossing 'purebred' cats her stud is 'Siamese' and her queens are Persian, Himalayan, and Siamese no registry is listed on her site and i did the math based on the kittening dates listed in her availible litters section of her website i saw that her queen flowers last two litters were born 16weeks 4 days apart and her queen lily had her kittens 13weeks 1 day apart (meaning she bred her 4 weeks postpartum

not sure what to do about this but it is very upsetting

.... That is disgusting!!!! I don't know the legalities of breeding, but my guess is they're not strict enough.

Can you report her to the humane society, for animal cruelty? Report her to the police? Call her up yourself and ring her neck lol - Maybe just personally exposing her, you'd scare her into straightening up her act.

If it were me, I'd do all 3... since I have no idea what's legal or illegal - I'm sure they'd all be more than willing to help. Even if it's just to clue me in on what I can and can't do.

Not much you can do. There aren't any laws regarding breeding of animals(i don't think)s. Same with all those backyard breeders who create and breed these designer dogs [read mutts]. The only thing that will stop them is if people don't buy their kittens/puppies.

The amount of times I've tried to persuade people into getting a rescue pet rather than one from a 'breeder' is crazy.. I understand people seeking a registered breeder if they want a particular breed but if they're just browsing for a pet, it drives me crazy that they'll waste money on these 'breeds' when they can get a pet for half the cost already de-sexed and vaccinated.

Shelters fill a niche but so do RESPONSIBLE breeders. The kittens and puppies people need to stop buying are puppies and kittens from BYBs. People need to learn to grill breeders like their is no tomorrow and understand what they are supporting when they buy a puppy/kitten/etc. from that particular breeder.

I totally agree. I have almost bought a kitten from a registered breeder, I have nothing against breeders who do the right thing. I used the quotation marks to refer to people who claim to be breeders but are not registered and/or responsible about their breeding. I'm sure responsible breeders get very upset at these people as well.

Sorry you just tend to see a lot of all breeders are the devil online. I'm probably going to have a hard time finding a cat breeder that meets my personal standards so I'll be sticking to shelters and oopsies, but I feel very strongly that shelter animals are not the answer for everyone and it's unfair to the animal to be adopted by someone that just isn't the right fit.

i posted this on my catteries Facebook last night where most of my current and previous customer go to share photos of the kittens the bought from me and inquire about upcoming litters ... i only found out about this lady because one of the women looking for a kitten from me suddenly stopped communicating with me after she heard my price when i looked at her Facebook i saw she had liked a cattery i had only just heard of and decided to check them out

"i have recently discovered that their is a back yard breeder in my area crossing Persians and Siamese and Himalayan and Siamese as well as 'pure bred' Siamese her kittens are significantly less expensive than mine and her breeding practices are reckless (one of her most recent litters was born 13weeks and 1 day after the previous litter meaning that her queen was bred 4 weeks after she delivered)

if you are looking for a cat that looks like a Siamese rather than a purebred kitten raised in a careful caring environment and bred with the best intentions for furthering the health temperament and conformation of the breed i would encourage you to look towards the NH Siamese rescue

— New Hampshire Siamese Rescue — ADOPTIONS —*RescueMe.Org

now please dont get me wrong my kittens need homes and i don't want to turn you away but if you are looking elsewhere just remember that if the kittens are less than $500 their is probably something fishy going on

i apologize for the rant - Kaitlyn"

i hope this makes the woman rethink her choice and that she instead rescues a cat or kitten

While I in no way support unregistered byb's or crossbreeding, it should be noted that 'Flowers' July litter was a singleton.

It's very common to do a back to back mating after a singleton, and usually in the girls best interest. The kitten may not have made it either.
Sometimes they have called 4 times before the kitten is 8 weeks old putting them at great risk of pyometra.

I wonder if Lily's kittens made it too, there are no further growing up shots of them.

wow I'm sorry i guess by the time i got to the bottom of her page i was so bothered that i didn't even notice that it was a singleton litter I'm sorry about that

she does show a photo of lily's kittens at 1 week and they all appear to be thriving but your certainly right she could have lost all her kittens for some reason
