Ok, i admit im getting ahead of myself as a new owner with 11 month old cats.
They are both house cats as i live in a flat and i chose them as previous owner had them as house cats. I would like to think that at a point in the future instead of getting more cats i would carry the family line and let one get pregnant. But of course they dont go out. Ok, dont laugh at me, i know im being thick here but ......is there a way in the future.........i havent thought this through i admit, but you know what i mean. Any advice welcome. I brace myself for critisicm and the obvious |

May I put forward a different perspective?
The cost of properly caring for a pregnant female is high. The chances of something going wrong with her pregnancy and you losing your beloved cat is there. What happens when she has a litter and you now have 2 or 10 (or more) kittens... are you prepared to care for them for the 12 weeks that they SHOULD be with their mother to properly learn how interact with people and other cats and THEN find good homes for them? Imagine your flat with up to 10 kittens (plus the adults) @ 3 and 4 months old... it's a LOT of chaos and possible damage to your place. You know nothing about your cats genetic history, she may pass on terrible genetic diseases onto kittens that the new owners will deal with..that is unless you plan on keeping all those kittens but then you'll need to worry about siblings breeding (which can happen as early as 4,5 and 6 months old.... She shouldn't be bred @ her first heat, shell be too young. Do you know that cats just keep coming into heat until bred? This means she's going to be uncomfortable, unhappy and probably LOUD and annoying on and off until she's old enough to be bred... Once you DO place your kittens you'll be taking away possible owners of cats in kill shelters and at risk to be put down... The 'family line' is no guarantee you will get a little replica of your cat..... so much can go wrong and you risk losing your beloved pet when you can just as easily choose another amazing pet @ the shelter.

I concur.
You said "in the future". This means the girlies will go through an unknown number of heat cycles, putting them at high risk of pyometra, a horrible condition where the uterus fills with puss. VERY lethal. And trust me, as the owner of a year and a half old queen, them going into heat is NOT pleasant. Kyra has not been fixed due to a number of reasons, but she is due in to be fixed ASAP. They are NOT your cat when they are in heat. ALL they want to do is scream and get... erhm, bred. They present to EVERYTHING. you, your shoes, the oven, the dog. They don't care, it MIGHT breed them, so they are going to offer themselves to it. And then there is the screaming. I swear it is not a noise a cat should be able to make. It is so disturbing, it sounds like a chronic smoker of 80 years being murdered. It is loud. And they do it the entire time they are awake-they especially like doing it outside your bedroom door at 4AM. The neighbors will HATE you, and any neighborhood toms will be outside your flat trying to get to the girls. Oh, and the girls will try with EVERYTHING in them to get outside and go on a "date" with those neighborhood toms I mentioned. Not really pleasant to have an unaltered queen as a pet unless you are a breeder, she is a good healthy purebred, and you know what you are doing. It is a lot better guarantee of finding the perfect kitten(LOL oxymoron) if you foster kittens. If you want to have the kitten for it's entire life, look into getting trained to foster "bottle babies", abandoned or orphaned kittens who are still of nursing age. Or better yet; foster a pregnant cat. These are all good options, better than breeding your moggies to continue the family line IMHO.

I will always get my cats spayed/neutered. There are *SO* many killed in shelters each year that can be prevented.
Imo, unless a person is a reputable breeder who is breeding with the sole purpose of improving a specific pure breed of animal there is no reason to breed. It gives them nothing to improve their health/well being and it can be detrimental to them.

Fantastic! You won't regret. I've been in people's home that had un-spayed female cats in heat and it is most unpleasant. My spayed kitties just want to sleep, eat and play, no issues with wanting to breed.
