Any update on Joy's first experience at a show? And your experience too? We want all the details.....

The brushing out video should be put as a sticky. Great info!

Hey everyone!
Joy did great for her first show...She started hissing a little by the end of the first day when she was put in the ring cages but other then that she was amazing! (It didn't help that she was alwasy surounded by hissing angry cats; I would start to swear too if there was always someone swearing in my face!!! lol) There was no panting or pacing so as far I could tell she was not stressed. Outside the ring, in the rest cage she was always or dozing off and even fell asleep once or twice when she was in the ring cage. Joy had no issues with the judges themsevles, only meows. Not the upset deep growl type meows but her usual almost like crying meows. We hear those same ones when we pick her up sometimes. She never even swiped when she got swiped at! We finaled in 3 of the 8 rings and placed 6th and 7th twice! I am very proud of her The public thought she was the cutest cat at the show.... lol I'll post some pictures once I get them on the computer. Thank you for all the tips. Covering the carrier worked great, not a peep from her the full 3h car ride! Not sure if we will go again next year... if we do, I will need to work with her some more in regards to those darn cages! |

Any tips for helping Joy get used to the judging cages? She is fine once she is in them, she is fine getting out of them and she has no issues going into her rest cage. She just hisses for the breif moment we or the judge places her in the cage....

Congratulations on your first show. Joy did gr8 ----wonderful to get finals in your first show. A lot of the hissing is natural for a first show. The "helpers", often kids, don't always do a thorough job of wiping out the cages after each cat, so likely she smelled the scent of previous cat(s). And some of the male cats will spray when they get in them. So if you see anything in the cage that looks like urine, mention it to the clerk that it hasn't been cleaned well enough. It sounded like she was pretty relaxed if she was able to doze in her bench cage. That's good. Two-day shows are pretty exhausting anyway, especially for a first time. Well done! and look forward to photos.

Congratulations! She did awesome in her first show. Is she registered under TICA or CFA? I show my felines under TICA and both earned their first title in one show. Joy may have earned enough points to earn herself a title, if its important to you.
