Thanks for the welcomes, everyone!
I've definitely noticed a difference in the variety of available pet food here - it's great, but it's somewhat overwhelming! And yeah, less expensive. Vet care is also considerably less costly, as I discovered yesterday when Maisie had to be treated for urinary issues.
I'm actually originally a US citizen, but I moved to Canada for a graduate program and then got a job and stayed. When that job got downsized, I made the difficult decision (I really liked living in Canada) to move back because the job prospects were better in a country where I am a citizen rather than just a resident.
Both of my cats were born in Canada. I got Zephyr from the SPCA shelter when he was a kitten, and Maisie was a stray that a coworker found and rehomed to me. My family always had cats when I was growing up, but these two are the first/only cats I've ever had that were just mine. I couldn't live without them!
These are my boys:

The two cats are very bonded to each other; they act just like littermates. They squabble, as brothers do, and then two minutes later they're curled up on the couch together.
