I like The Colony on The Discovery channel but my saying that probably offends someone.

We don't have a laughing smilie anymore? ... just grinning, winking and smiling? Okay:
Dave, you crack me up!
I've seen the previews for The Colony but didn't want to watch it. Mostly, I guess, because while it may not be scripted, the situation *is* contrived and aren't a real and true accounting of what their behavior would be like. They *know* this 'experiment' only lasts for 60 days.

I like watching the first season of The Colony because it's what I thought Survivor was going to be. It's Survivor without the prize for a winner. No one get's voted off.

The people on the first round were amazing. For Bunny sake "The Professor" built a wood powered flame thrower with a 30 foot range that held steady for a long time. A wood powered flame thrower that blew up an assaulting vehicle.

They stranded them with about 3 day's of water, no clean water available and about a weeks canned food and left them there for 70 day's. Well, slightly less than 70 day's becasue they built a truck that ran on wood and was capable of going 150 miles and got out early. They also built a solar powered scouting vehicle.

There were commentaries from psychologists, engineers and Homeland Security experts who taught that in a disaster you need to work for water, food, shelter and security. And incidentally that you should try to be stranded with John Cohn, an ex-IBMer they ended up calling "The Professor".

With my luck, I'd be stranded with Gilligan and Mrs. Howell. And just to make my life heck, Ginger.

Is this the same show that had a group of people in a warehouse-like setting and one of the men's wife showed up at the door?
I'm remembering that from some sort of preview...

That's the one Heidi. The woman who showed up was John Cohn "The Professors" wife.

They dropped them in an old warehouse. This guy and a guy who was titled a 'Handyman' but was definitely an amazing all round mechanic built increadible things from scavenged parts including a solar powered vehicle from old motorcycle and car parts.

They had vistis from outsiders begging for their resources several times and there was a band of Mad Max type marauders. The Homeland Security guy said that would happen in a collapse. Toward the end the marauders cut them off from the LA river where they were getting their water and they knew the marauders were going to attack to take their more of their food. The marauders had stolen a lot of their food once before. John Cohn had built a water filtration system from charcoal and sand and then boiling so that they could drink the poluted water from the LA river (drainage ditch). When he decided they need the wood to power and old truck they rebuilt he build an ozone water purifier to replace boiling.

When the marauders attacked in force they had a lot of traps set up but as their defenses collapsed they ran for the wood powered truck and it worked. It ended with them driving down the LA river.

In the first show of this season a group of 16 marauders attacked the new group of 8 using pepper spray and some heavy physical contact and stole their first aid supplies. It doesn't look like this season's cast includes a Professor.

I just watched that program this afternoon, and enjoyed it. Thanks for posting about it. I'll be watching it from now on.

A thread I started actually provides useful information and no one ends up in casualty (er to you across the pond)?

Ok I'm scared too, can I have a hug?
