We are both moving to Glendale, CA for our posh new jobs. We need to buy a home to house our pets. Are there any streets/neighborhoods to avoid? We spent all our lives in Texas, and we have absolutely no clue.

There are bad neighborhoods everywhere. There is no such thing as a "safe" place, bad things happen in the richest neighborhoods, too.

You can likely tell the good from the bad on sight, the truly bad locations are pretty noticeable. Otherwise, ask the locals, they'll know the places that aren't thought too highly of.

Check the website "City-Data.com" for any comments! Should be fun to browse on the site. (I don't remember how or why I stumbled upon it a few years ago, it's the place to go for exactly that kind of question...)
