I was assigned to Minnesota as a Fed in the 70's, and my personal best was 50 degrees below zero at Bemidji in 1974. I knew I was acclimated when I looked at the thermometer at home one day and said to myself "Hey! it's only zero. That's great!"

I don't really have anything to complain about... there's a small amount of snow/frost on the ground. Winter has finally hit. I think it's below 0 right now. Last edited by Carmel; 01-14-2013 at 03:18 PM. |

I'm not sure this is as much a complaint as a confession.
My family is probably going to our vacation home for the weekend, and I told them regretfully that I couldn't go along because Maisie is taking antibiotics and I don't want to ask a pet sitter to deal with giving him pills. The truth? My regret was fake. While my reason for not going is genuine, I also feel (and here comes the complaint part) like I need some me time and want to have the house to myself (and cats of course.) I haven't had the house to myself in quite awhile, and I miss it.

It is driving me crazy how many people who supposedly know me - including in my own extended family - have commented since I moved to the United States about how "quickly" I have "replaced" the cats I had in Canada.
Um... these are the cats I had in Canada! Bringing your pets with you when you move is the normal thing to do, and people travel internationally with animals every day. Getting proof of vaccinations and a health certificate for each of them was really not that big of a deal. I just can't believe how many people just assumed I would leave them behind and get new ones.

Never mind rabies shots...make sure they're spayed or neutered, they definitely shouldn't be allowed to breed!

We could always TNR your family if you think it would be best to put them back into their natural habitats.
Btw, thank you for the suggestion about looking on Craig's List for a washer. Although there wasn't one on there I would never have thought to look there.

I get up this morning and follow my morning routine of turning the heat up, putter around a little bit and realize that the heat hasn't kicked on yet. No biggie I go and turn off the thermostat and turn it back on again. I hear the heater kick on, the pilot light ignite and then everything shuts down. Yup...the heater is now not working and we are expecting a high tomorrow of about 19 (yes boys and girls, that would be a high of 19 and a low of about 9).
What have I done to the universe to peeve it of so royally that everything is going at once
